The Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship (CNVE) has presented an interesting problem regarding entrepreneurship in the Brazos Valley. The Center believes that there are individuals or groups with great ideas about start-ups but stresses that there is a lack of aggregated information to aid entrepreneurship. Consulting with Dr. Lester has made it evident that the information is available but that it is just scattered throughout the World Wide Web. Our goal is to make one central repository where all Brazos Valley startup information can be accessed and referenced.
Our site will not only benefit the new hopeful entrepreneurs, but it will also aid existing entrepreneurs and community by increasing economic activity throughout the Brazos Valley. If the community grows, everyone benefits. The SBA recognized 27.2 million small businesses in the United States in 2007; additionally, it states that 44 percent of all individuals think about opening a small business, but only 1 in 9 actually does it. Small businesses are credited for 75 percent of new job creation. This project’s intention is to raise small business activity in the Brazos Valley and provide a relevant free resource for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Our Website will appeal to our target market by being readily available and free to all. The competitive advantage for this website is that it will be strictly designed for the Brazos Valley area. This site compiles all of the information already available but puts it together and gives only the necessary information needed for the potential entrepreneur. We have managed to get the most essential information on one website for the consumer to minimize time spent online.
Mind-mapping the Brazos Valley has been organized and coordinated by three aspiring entrepreneurs in order to make a difference for everyone. Jason Ebel, Terrence Weaver and Mario Murillo have come together from different parts of the world to collaborate on this project and create something truly valuable for aspiring entrepreneurs. The group has coordinated with CNVE, Research Valley Innovation Center (RVIC), Research Valley Partnership (RVP) and the Brazos Valley Small Business Development Center (BVSBDC). We have utilized the top minds throughout the community to conjoin a wide range of tools. The website will aid in filling in the questions from taxation to legal structures in the business environment.
Our Mind-mapping project team has recently concluded all of its research and has developed the website for immediate use. This is a first generation web site that uses quasi-open-source software. The provider of the software allows non-paying customers to create and host up to three mind-maps online without paying a fee. We as a group do believe that it would be useful to have premium (paid) access to the site which allows for various upgrades which could add to the aesthetic appeal of the website.
